Interplast

Our guest speaker last Wednesday was Amanda Hough  from Torquay Rotary Club.   Amanda is the District 9780 Committee member for Interplast.  Interplast sends teams of medical volunteers from Australia and New Zealand to developing countries in the Asia Pacific Region to deliver programs of treatment and training.  Interplast changes the lives of many people by providing access to surgery either by providing the treatment or training the local staff to provide the treatment.  Currently Interplast have achieved the following.

  • 41 Programs delivered
  • In 16 countries
  • Providing nearly 1000 operations
  • Delivering training to medical staff
  • Providing over $2 Million of pro bono services
Thanks to Amanda for such an informative presentation. The Board will consider supporting Interplast as part of our program of work.

General Update

Members Survey.  Have your say! The Board is conducting a members survey to seek your views on a number of topics.  Peter Codd has sent it out by email. Please let Peter know if you require a hard copy.

Exchange Student Erik  Schuh from Cologne Germany – update.
Don't forget to put your thinking caps on about 'things to do and places to go' with Erik our exchange student. John McGibbon will be managing a diary for the duration of the exchange. Leon met the family while over in Cologne. Lovey family and Erik is a 'really great kid'.  Loves doing hands on activities, landscaping, gardening and enjoys riding a pushbike.

Looking for a push bike for Erik - - if you have one that you can donate or lend for 12 months please see John.

Dinner Auction Update: Taking donations now

Member update: Our friend Colin Berris is taking a bit of a break from regular Rotary Meetings - He will pop in every now and again and help out at BBQs when he can.  Thanks Colin for all the hard work you have done over the years to support our great club. We look forward to seeing you as often as you can.  Keep in touch.

New BBQ Trailer:  The new BBQ trailer has left Brisbane and will be delivered to Barwon Timber.  We will get an update when it is ready to go.

Foundation 61.  Leon and Bill visited Foundation 61 to seek an update of where they are at with the planning and building of the Women's Shelter in Geelong. The Federal Government has purchased the land. Leon and Bill will be visiting local politicians with Foundation 61 to seek $750,000 funding for the building.

House of Angels - update.  Don't forget to consider participating in the $100 per year House of Angels fundraising program.  See Cheryle, Leon or Dawn for details. It is off an running and friends and colleagues are starting to contribute.  This is a fantastic way to help Dawn and April with the on-costs for supporting the children in Coffee Bay.
The Rotary trip to visit House of Angels in August is getting closer.  17 suitcases full of donations, including some computers have been packed ready to be picked up next Sunday.  The Board has confirmed that it will fund $2000 for the 're-roofing of the rondavels' project and $500 for some play ground equipment.  April has been busy liaising with Angel to sort out all of the details of the trip.  It's all happening.  We will keep you posted.
