Grovedale Waurn Ponds Rotary Making a difference
Local Rotarians building a school in the Democratic Republic of Congo - Africa
Our guest and speaker Romain Mirindi showed us some photos and told us that he along with a few of Geelong Rotary Clubs International Committees are try to raise funds to help finish building a school in the Democratic Republic of Congoin Central Africa.  The school is only partially built and is already catering for nearly 600 students. The Government is not contributing any funds, supplies or the running of the school. Romain and a group of people are organising it themselves.
They saw this need to build a school as the Congo had just come out of a war and the children as young as 7 years were being exploited and made to work on farms and in mines as they were not going to school.
A few of the Geelong Rotary Clubs are already donating some funds and hopefully all our Clubs can assist. They need to raise another $US20,900 and ongoing US$600 per month to pay for the teachers wages of $50.00 per month. We will hear some more news on this as Lesley is attending the meeting of the Geelong Clubs International Committees. It is always great to see the Rotary Clubs combining their efforts to get projects done.

Judy Beasley Group 10 Assistant Governor visits.
Judy Beasley the Assistant Governor  provided an interesting update of the activities of all of the Rotary Clubs in the Group 10 area.  It was great to hear what everyone has been up to. Lots of hard work and great results both locally and internationally. Judy also promoted the upcoming Rotary District Conference which will be held April 5-8 in Mt Gambier.
Each club has been asked to prepare a small video/powerpoint presentation about how they have been 'making a difference'.
We need some club volunteers to get this together - so that our good work is represented at the Conference. Please contact Cheryle if you can assist.
