DECEMBER IS ROTARY FOUNDATION MONTH
DECEMBER IS ROTARY FOUNDATION MONTH
Last week members heard about the water project being planned for schools and villages in the Phillipines by Clubs in our District. One of the possible funding sources is from the Rotary Foundation through overseas grants - a contribution from our Clubs is matched by the Foundation. We have used this avenue to fund the projects in Nepal over the years.
Of course the other major project has been the work done to eradicate polio. On 21 August Nigeria marked three years without a case of wild poliovirus, which means the WHO African region could potentially be certified wild poliovirus-free next year. This will be a tremendous achievement, as the continent once suffered three quarters of all polio cases in the world. Rotary has contributed US$268 million to fight polio in Nigeria
Members from GWP attended the film night at Readings - Ride like a Girl - to assist in fundraising over $2000 for Rotary Foundation in September. All funds raised in our District come back to Australia after 3 years to enable Clubs to apply for District and Global grants to improve local and overseas communities.
