ROTARY 2017 BULLETIN 27 FEB 8
Last night we were saddened to see Carlie leave us, I believe her to be a person of great courage and ability. We ALL wish you well for the future Carlie you know our door is always open.
The Group President’s meeting was held last night and I attended about half but because of my decision to attend all Club meetings and deafness I left at 6.45 while, surprise, surprise, WWC was being discussed.
After Carlie’s farewell speech we held a Board meeting, one item discussed was the nomination of Carlie for a Shine On Award. This was approved but due to Carlie’s changed circumstance I have emailed her to ascertain whether she would like to proceed and she would.
Four matters in particular were discussed that I consider need to be included in my report with my response
I. dissatisfaction with the food and cost of the Xmas party.
I agree the food quantity was inadequate, my idea of a substantial item and RK Catering’s are different; my mistake, I could have checked further. We have learned by my error.
II. cost for non or moderate drinkers.
Everyone purchasing a ticket knew all drinks were included.
The drinks were not minimal and were good.
Last year the bar made about $1500.00 and that was not from soft drink sales.
None of the non or moderate drinkers refused the $25.00 reduction from the Club account which was more than covered by the bar profit.
The non-drinkers might like to consider the contribution to the Club at every meeting by the bar when complaining about one event.
Soft drinks, juices and bottled water are not free at restaurants
III more consultation with members about their wishes and budget.
August 10th , the club voted for that venue at that $65.00 price.
IV the informal meeting $10.00 saving incentive for the Xmas party being used to pressure non attendees.
When we voted by secret ballot (the first?) to return to weekly meetings (9 against 15 for) I decided because of the potential cost of future Xmas functions, with welcome support from Ken, to self-cater informal meetings. Attendees pay $15, Devi & I charge $5 and $10 is available for the Xmas party, at the May meeting we will invite partners. At least one person not attending the informal meetings wrongly feels they are being pressured to attend by being financially disadvantaged, there is no disadvantage, no pressure and no other opportunity to self-cater, it is a way to pay by instalment. People who choose not to attend are very welcome to continue.
SPORTS & SPONSORS don’t forget RIDE THE BELLARINE,
I’ll pay Carlyle 3 bucks for every UNAIDED kilometre he completes
