Meeting Number 2003

Very fruitful discussions were held by those members who attended the Committee Meetings last week. This was followed by the Board Meeting. Funds have been allocated to both bushfire and drought relief appeals.

It was decided that the Club would donate $5000 to Foundation 61 in both the current and the next Rotary year, this money being allocated to the funding of operating a room for each year. No decision was made to change our commitment to the funding of the establishment of the Women's Facility at this time.  A final decision on this will be made when the Club is notified of approval to proceed with the project, and funds are available.

Congratulations to all members who assisted with the BBQ at Harvey Norman last week. Gary related that after expenses we achieved $547.45 profit, with sausages, bread and other items in storage for the next BBQ. A great success! Thanks Ken

Next Wednesday we are having our Annual Dinner at The Grovedale Hotel, at 6 for a 6.30 start. We will enjoy a pre-dinner drink and finger food before a 2-course meal. Please make sure you advise Don or Jordan via Whoozin of your attendance.

On Wednesday 11 December there is a BBQ at Opal Aged Care, 209 South Valley Road Highton for the official opening of the raised garden beds which the Club provided. Start time is 6 for 6.30 pm. Partners are welcome to attend. BYO drinks. David would like numbers by Monday 9 December.

I will send a copy of the roster for the nursing home visits out via email to everyone. Please let Jan know if you are not available. Community Service requires input from everyone at this time of the year!

As Christmas approaches have you given any thought to the help required by some people in the community?

Proposed Water Project - Philippines
Proposed Water Project - Philippines
At the Board Meeting last week the sum of $2000 was proposed as the GWP donation towards the possible costs of a water project in the Philippines. This would enable a group of Rotary Clubs in the Geelong area to apply for a global grant to fund the provision of safe drinking water to schools using Skyhydrant units.

The Skyhydrant units will be installed at each school, including installation materials such as piping and fittings. Local communities provide the required labour  and local Rotary Clubs are the focal point for interaction between all parties. A member of the community is designated as the "operator" of the equipment and will be responsible for the maintenance program established for each location.

The objective of the project is to reduce water-borne diseases and illnesses in the student population caused by the ingestion of untreated water. It is well known that these diseases are the cause of most of the school absenteeism in children.

What an exciting project! Let's hope other Clubs offer their support!
