Thanks to everyone who is volunteering or participating in this great event. Participants and volunteers will be emailed details by the organisers.
helloworld Geelong are major sponsors of this event. They have donated return flights from either Avalon, Sydney, Adelaide or Hobart to the club who raises the most money on a per member basis. So we need to get behind our club riders and sponsor them. An email will be sent out with the details or alternatively just ask Peter how to sponsor a rider.
This week we had an inspiring speaker, Peter Simko, a widowed man who is dedicating a great part of his life to the memory of his beloved wife Jen, a victim of Motor Neurone Disease (MND). He has raised an enormous amount of money with the help of a small group of dedicated friends and substantial support from Rex Gorell. See the article below for more information about MND and the major fundraiser Rock Off MDN which Peter spoke about.
Ours is the first Rotary Club Peter has spoken to, I hope he enjoyed it - we certainly did. The Board will consider making a donation at our next meeting.
Last week I became the voting appointee for Conference, because my nomination could only be lodged on the correct form, signed by the President, the Secretary and returned by Friday night. On Thursday I was extremely busy during the afternoon and left for Phillip Island early in the evening. So unfortunately we will not be voting. There are a lot of forms and procedures in Rotary, do we need them all?
ROTARY DISTRICT CONFERENCE GEELONG is NEXT WEEKEND if you are going; REGISTER
RIDE THE BELLARINE thanks to those volunteering and participating
HIGHTON COMBINED we need final numbers next Wednesday. This will be a very interesting night, the speaker is the Justin Giddings, CEO of Avalon.
TRIVIA. A former member with a Canadian accent, whose father was one of Ottawa’s leading coppers, let it slip the other day that he was expelled from the famous institution founded by Lord Baden-Powell. Our redheaded mate earned notoriety by using his very little magnifying glass to light a very large fire under a very large tree with no regard for the consequences.
David Carlyle purchased the working bee at the last dinner auction. He has decided that the 8th April is the 'big day'. Calling for volunteers to help with the working bee - laying turf, setting up garden beds and vege garden etc. Please contact either David or Paul Desbrowe Annear if you are able to help out.
