  Wednesday 20 November
Meeting Number 2001

Jo Betz gave a very inspirational talk on her life experiences both before and after the death of her husband in 2017 when she was 37. Her determination to overcome the mental, emotional and physical difficulties are to be admired. Thank you David for inviting Jo to our meeting.

The Club will hold its AGM on Wednesday 20 November.  Please give some thought to your role in GWP Rotary in the next Rotary year - it makes it so much easier if everyone assists in our efforts to help our community.

There will also be an opportunity for members to discuss a number of topics - contributions to Bushfire and Drought Relief programs, the maximum amount of funding which might be committed to a project and our commitment to Foundation 61. As well a discussion on the future direction of the Club may be fruitful.

Please give some thought to your availability to help with the roster for the Harvey Norman Waurn Ponds BBQ on Thursday 27 November. It is a great fundraiser for the Club. There is also the Rice Village Christmas Fair on Sunday 1 December. The visits to the nursing homes are on Wednesday 18 December. There is also the Bunnings BBQ on Thursday 19 December. Gary and Jan will be looking for volunteers. Community Service requires input from everyone at this time of the year!

We all hope that Jordan enjoys his trip to New Zealand this week and doesn't lose his way too often! Please come back Jordan!

Rotary should be fun for everyone - are you enjoying Rotary? What do we need to do to make it more enjoyable?

Stories
FROM DG ROSANNE KAVA
A number of topics are covered in the last DG Newsletter which perhaps require our attention.

Rosanne mentions the Bendigo Bank Drought Appeal which was mentioned in last week's Bulletin. Should we assist those farmers in strife with a donation - through RAWCS or the Bank?

There is also mention of the Bushfire Relief for Queensland - again through RAWCS - Rotary Australia World Community Service. Google RAWCS for other possible projects!

The Club has received information about the Papua New Guinea Project from Warrnambool Club. They are working on a number of projects to provide water for villagers and schools in Oro Province, and provide and distribute humanitarian aid materials, feminine hygiene products, teaching materials books and sports equipment to remote schools. This project is a partnership of 7 Rotary Clubs and other organisations. Do we want to show interest in this?

Rotary Friendship Exchange. GWP has an opportunity to host or share host 2 teams from the USA in 2020. D 5060 is in Washington State and BC in Canada. D 5970 is in Iowa USA. Normally the teams visit for 2 weeks with 10 - 12 people in each and stay with Rotarians and visit their District and their Rotary Clubs. Again - any interest?

Please take a moment to peruse the Newsletter - there is plenty of good reading.
